How To Harvest Cashew Nuts

Cashew tree plants flower for 2 or 3 months and fruits mature about 2 months after the blooming. When the whole fruit is fully ripe, it falls to the ground, and harvesting generally involves collecting nuts when they have dropped

7 Step to Harvest Cashew Nuts In Vietnam: 

  • Step 1: Waiting for the cashews until the fruits begin to fall off the cashew tree.
  • Step 2: Collecting the cashew fruits and cashew nuts.
  • Step 3: Separating the Cashew Nuts from the Cashew Apples (Use Knife)
  • Step 4: Leave the detached raw cashews nuts in sun to dry, until the moisture of products is 11% max.
  • Step 5: Deliver raw cashew nuts to the factory to shell cutting.
  • Step 6: Grading cashew nuts kernel based-on AFI Standard.
  • Step 7: Packing and ready for export around the world

Waiting until the fruits begin to fall

Should wait until cashew fall down on ground itself with its fruit. Stop plucking with hands before cashew nut get fully matured. Daily collection of cashew nuts together with cashew apple from ground

Separating the cashew nuts

Proper separation of cashew nuts from cashew apple (use knife). While separating cashew nut from cashew apple, shouldn’t leave any part of apple on the cashew nut head. The quality of the nut is affected when the apple is not neatly detached from the nut.

Dry cashew nuts

Must dry collected cashew nuts in sunlight for minimum 2 days. Air-dry collected nuts on concrete floors, drying mats or tarpaulins under shade for 2 to 4 days. Turn nuts frequently during the drying period to ensure uniform drying.

Storage of nuts

Dried cashew nut must be store in jute bags where its get more air ventilation. Never store cashew nuts in plastic bags because its affects negatively the cashew quality Cashew nut bags must be store in organized piles on top of the wooden pallets, keeping distance to the warehouse walls.

  I n the southern province of Vietnam,   Binh Phuoc is known as Vietnam’s “cashew capital” , Binh Phuoc is proposing a project to develop and Increase the Cashew Cultivation Area cashew tree as the main crop. Binh Phuoc Vietnam Increases Raw Cashew Output. Binh Phuoc province  is the largest place to  grow cashew in Vietnam , about 50% of the Vietnam cashew area. 150,000 ha Cashew Tree with an output of 1,5 tons per ha. Binh Phuoc  is home to a large area of agricultural land that grows many types of trees such as  rubber, pepper, cashew…  Currently, Binh Phuoc province is making efforts to increase  the area of cashew cultivation  because the soil & climate is most suitable for  cashew trees .  Vietnam is about 290,000 hectares (2021) , and  Binh Phuoc  alone accounts for  60% of the Vietnam cashew area,  about 150,000 ha with an output of 1,5 tons per ha. Vietnam Cashew Aiming 900m USD export to the EU in 2022

  According to the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the EU is currently the second-largest importer of Vietnamese cashew nuts, accounting for 23 % of the total volume. Vietnam Exported 135,000 tonnes Cashew In 2022 In 2021, Vietnam exported about 135,000 tonnes of cashew nuts to the EU, earning 816 million USD, up 16.5 percent in volume and 7.9 percent in value year-on-year. Vietnamese cashew nuts are available in 23 EU member markets, mainly the Netherlands and Germany. The two are currently important trading hubs for cashew nuts in the EU, because they not only import for domestic consumption but also re-export to other markets
